more than one company has 1ghz chips running.  The PPC is one well-known case.
The digital alpha is another.  I received some > 500mhz Intel benchmark results
3 months ago as well, and have also gotten data on the "merced" chip from the
Intel/HP joint venture.  So lots of things are going to happen over the next
two years...
