he can make 12000$ by winning all games vs. the guaranteed payoff of 2500. that
looks like a good enough incentive. of course, it's unrealistic. but say a
+2-2=4 score is realistic - he gets 5000$. that's 2500 more than the minimum pay
- and while that may not seem like much to computer people, chess professionals
of smirin's rating don't often get that kind of payday. he will try :-)
