Some other posters have expressed the concern that many chess engines are made with some optimizations for certain hardware. I don't see why someone couldn't make a general unoptimized simple chess program to use as a "base" score, and then throw in benchmarks from a few top chess programs as well. Surely someone could make a chess program that would give a "fair" score across different hardware platforms. Russell
