Crafty is part of the SPEC test and it does show what many have seen through Fritzmark results....Athlon at lower clock speeds outperform the P4 at faster speeds. However the fastest Dual MP does not outperform the fastest Dual or Quad Pentium 4! Here is the proof: On my P3 500E with 100Mhz FSB with 64MB for Hash Tables I get F7 Fritzmark 423 @ 297Kn/s on a 1.4Ghz P3 i should get 831.6Kn/s as the 1.4Ghz is 2.8 times faster The F6 fritzmark is 330 @ 474Kn/s I recieved a reply that a 2.2Ghz P4 got 937 @1412 on F6 Fritzmark which should relate to 1412 / 1.595959596 or 884.7Kn/s with Fritz 7 the Hash size wasn't clarified but +- 75Kn is probably the margin of error so a 2.2Ghz P4 is roughly equal to a 1.489Ghz P3 On my 1Ghz 200Mhz FSB CAS2 PC-133 AMD thunderbird F7 Fritzmark i get 256Mb Hash 742 @ 524Kn/s 128Mb 778 @ 552Kn/s 64Mb 817 @ 569Kn/s 831.6 / 569 = 1461.511424 so it's obvious the P3 is better than my thunderbird at the same clock speed as i would need 1.461Ghz to = it's 1.4 On my father's 1533Mhz Athlon XP w DDR i got F7 256MB 961 @ 748Kn/s 128Mb 1008 @ 781Kn/s 64Mb 1047 @ 806Kn/s so i should get at a minimum 1.533x the performance this is not so and also with posted results i still get 100-130Mhz less 748 / 524 = 1.427480916 So the MP/XP platform is for Fritz worth less than it's actual clock speed So for me to double my speed i would need the non existant 2300+ to 2500+ in case of my Main Computer. 4x than my laptop i would need upto 2600+. For P4 i could need 2.800 - 3.100Ghz So 2Ghz on newer CPU's and Architectures does not = twice my performance I would have to get a Dual Processor machine to do this which i might consider eventually. As far as what is fastest if you take 1.67Ghz divide by 1.533Ghz multiply the results i have for my fathers computer.... the 1.67 should get 814.8 Kn/s w 256Mb for hash times this by 1.7 and a dual 2000+ should get 1385.2Kn/s maybe someone with a dual would post their results, my numbers should be extreemly close. a Dual 1.4Ghz P3 (831.6 x 1.7) should get 1413.7Kn/s so a Dual Athlon may not be the fastest thing out there so much for the theory some were putting out about a dual athlon being faster than the 1.6Hz Quad P4 as i said before i estimate 884.73 for a 2.2Ghz P4 so 1504Kn/s for a Dual 2.2Ghz P4 Xeon at least. but for 1.6Ghz ....2200/1600 = 1.375 884.73/1.375 643.44Kn/s for the 1.6Ghz P4 Xeon at a minimum and 3.1X that for the quad or 1994.6Kn/s any more results for P4's and Dual Athlons would be appreciated Possibly someone can post P3/P4 and Athlon at varios speeds for crafty to see if they show the same that i did.... At = clock speed the P3 is better than Athlon and P4. But the Fastest System you can by (for Fritz) is the Quad P4 and in July 8 and 16-way will be available. Now until they come out with Fritz for unix a p90 server (32way 1.3Ghz Power 4) is the fastest outside of special purpose clusters or a Cray!
