I think they are:
King: R {"roi")
Queen: D {for "damme", I guess}
Rook: T {"tour"}
Bishop: F {"fou", that is insane person}
Knight: C {"cavalier"}
Pawn: P
The letters for the pieces are like in Spanish, except that, in Spanish, the
bishop is A {"alfil", an ancient Spanich word for elephant. In old Spanish it
was "arfil"}
