I let Fritz 7 study this position (infinite analysis) for an hour before I abandoned the search. Then I increased the number of search lines to 12 (effectively forcing Fritz to consider a5), and after about 15 minutes Fritz decided that a5 was the best move, but by a very narrow margin.
