Those "funny" time controls are usually a good thing for internet play. Especially at high traffic chess servers. For the sole purpose of defeating lag, 10 seconds is probably too much, but a couple of seconds is always good. I've played many games where I made my move, and it showed up on my board, but my clock kept running. The fact of the matter was that the server wasn't getting my move so it thought my clock was still running so I lost a minute off my clock. Internet chess is not reliable like OTB chess is, so some time bonus for each move is ok online. Russell
