I have 3.6.2   Technically I can "drag the pieces" but just the mouse
drags, when I let go of the mouse the piece appears.

Which version do you have?  I got my version recently and try to
stay reasonably up to day.  They must have very recently added
this feature or perhaps it's an option I have to set in the makefile?
