Hi Jerry,

Mr. Kramnik is facing a real challenge, and like any good competitor, he knows
you don't downplay your opponent before the match. It hurts your effort to
prepare yourself, and it's bad for marketing the match.

No one wants to see a match between the World Chess Champ and a stupid program!

I'm sure both Fritz and Mr. Kramnik will be ready in October. After the match,
some inferences might be made between the playing strength of Fritz on this hot
PC, and Deep Blue.

Absolute comparisons of any program today with Deep Blue is rather speculative
-and surely fruitless. Everybody just has their own subjective opinion regarding
Deep Blue.

Myself, I believe it's important to remember that DB had a bug that caused it to
choose moves OTHER THAN the best move,** for quite a while, according to Dr.
Hsu. If Kramnik is looking over THOSE games, yes, I'm sure Fritz7 is looking
MUCH stronger than DB.

** Not for every move DB made, of course!

I'm sure everyone on this board is anxiously looking forward to the match in
Bahrain. Both competitors are quite formidable, surely. Just because our
opinions of who's stronger MAY differ, it doesn't mean when we express those
opinions, that anyone is a "liar". Until the poster says "Kramnik is a liar", I
wouldn't presume to read that distinction into the post.

Dave
