AKA marketing hype and covering himself in case >the unexpected happens and he loses... one more thing: i think that unlike kasparov, kramnik is generally a friendly person. after losing to deep blue, kasparov went and accused IBM of cheating. a great way to make them quit the chess arena (they may have planned the move anyway, but this surely gave them a good reason!). kramnik on the other hand is quite a different type of person - he knows what the sponsors want to hear and i think saying this kind of stuff if you're going to get lots of $$$ in bahrain in return is easy for kramnik. i don't think he's deliberately lying - just putting some praise on the guys who pay for his next first-class ticket and 5-star hotel - common practice, i would say! aloha martin
