Subject: K6 Processor a good bet for Chess?

Author: Robert Pawlak

I have decided to upgrade my machine, and am strongly considering the K6.

I have been following Ed's posts on the K6 with some interest. It appears as
though the K6's integer performance is better than that of a PII at the same
clock speed. It also appears from Ed's page that the K6 is a real screamer for
Rebel.

The question is thus: do Ed's results also apply to other programs? I.e. I
believe that engines primarily use integer operations, and so it would seem to
my untrained eye that the performance Ed observes would also be manifest to
slightly lesser or greater extents by other engines.

Any experiences or comments?

If you have any experience with compatibility, I'd like to here those too. But
note that I posted a question on compatibility on r.g.c.c. also.
