Uh huh, it's getting philosophical (and therefore less accurate - pun intended
;)

I have a decent idea what "calculate" means. Could you give me your definition
of "understanding"? As long as the definition is something like "understanding
is something a human being is capable of but a computer never can do", it's
rather trivial to discuss whether computers understand something or not. They
can't _by definition_.

Disclaimer: I would never define 'understanding' like that :)
