Never mind fast programs - I see that both Chess Tiger 14.9 for PalmOS always
plays, in this variation of the English,

1. c4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. Bg2 d5

although it's out of book (!) after 3. Bg2; Chess Genius 1.4 for PalmOS has 3.
... Bb4 in book, and I've noticed before that this is a pleasing line to play
against.

Because the programs are not human so don't know who or what they're playing;
Shredder faced methods which, at the moment, no program would or could use.
