For those very few of you who have been experiencing the "menus draw blank" bug in Chessmaster 8000 (which, apparently, can only happen on Windows 2000/NT/XP), the reason for the problem has been found. Believe it or not, it has to do with multiple language support, specifically a Microsoft program called an "Input Method Editor" (also called a "Method Input Editor" or an "IME"). Basically, what this program allows users to do is to enter East Asian characters on a standard Dvorak keyboard. It appears to wrap itself around any window that can accept character input (including menu windows) on the possibility that East Asian character input may be required. Well, somehow, this was screwing up menus in CM8000. This problem will be fixed for CM9000, but there may not be a patch to fix it in CM8000. If a patch IS eventually created, it will not be until after CM9000 is released. So, if you are experiencing this problem, then you need to either turn off or uninstall any East Asian language support. To those of you who it was happening to, we apologize for the frustration.... jm
