It is not supposed to be a pure software contest. If these open hardware events had all been uniform events, for the past twenty years, imagine what would have been stifled. There would be no Deep Thought/Blue, because what is the point, it would have had nowhere to compete. There would have been no research in parallel programming, because what would the point of that be? bruce
