I run Chessbase products on my Win2K box at school and on an XP notebook at home. I actually find that they run better under XP. With the Win2K system, it takes a bit of time for engines to load/unload, a bit of time for games and databases to open/close, while with XP, no such lag issues. And XP is just as rock-solid as is Win2K in general. I'd also echo the suggestion that you look at AMD chips as a possibility for your new system.
