I have a feeling that this problem was intended to have a Black knight on a1
(although I still haven't solved it, it now seems like it could lead to a long
White mate):

[d] 8/5K2/3p3p/3p3P/pp1P4/rkb1R3/p1p3P1/n1B2B2 w - - 0 1

Do you think that's the correct position from which to start the mate in 16?
