If you ask whatever store you're purchasing from to preinstall Windows 2000 Pro instead of Windows XP, you'll get Windows 2000 Pro. This has nothing to do with the CPU (Pentium4/Athlon) Perhaps you are confused because the newest Athlons are Athlon XP's? The 'XP' in 'Athlon XP' has no relation to Windows XP. >In actually which CPU IS BETTER? I'm racking my brains on this and I shouldn't. For most chessprograms, the Athlon will be faster and cheaper, so I'd avoid the Pentium 4 and get the Athlon XP instead. >Also do I require 32 MB Video Ram CARD?, a 56 CD ROM??? If you're not going to play games, you don't need an expensive video card. On the other hand a more expensive video card might give better image quality, which will be beneficial to your eyes. Same thing for the CDROM. You'll copy the software you use to your harddisk anyway, so it's not important to get the fastest. >1.6 GHZ Pentium 4 This is a rather slow processor, given the current state of technology. I would avoid the Pentium 4, they are no good for current chessprograms. >256 RAM...I'd rather have 512 an extra 80.00 Yes. Buying more RAM is generally something you won't regret later. -- GCP
