I have great respect for this man's chess talent and knowledge. He's 50 years old now with a rating of 2597. 20 years ago he was 30 (nice maths ;-) with ELO 2600. Now, I've always thought that ELO:s have been inflated during the years, so that 2600 1982 deserves more respect than 2600 2002. These numbers are of course connected to different groups of reference chess players. Anyway, the calculating powers of Timman 1982 should be much higher than those of the same man 2002 (age). I read you that chess knowledge would turn the tables so that T of 2002 would totally crush T of 1982. I'm not so sure about that. Sune > > >> >> >> >> >>>but still it's comparable.
