Perhaps Jerry did not mean a real crash, but just the engine not working under WB. I had a similar problem. When trying to open the opening book, and failing, I printed an error message from strerror(). This was typically "Could not open dbbook.bin: No such file or directory". No real problem, but when Winboard saw the "No such file ..." it refused to use the engine with the above mentioned message. Perhaps it depends on the version of WB. I reported this to Tim Mann, and perhaps he has done something about it. My solution was, to print "WB does not like my error message" instead of the strerror output ... All this from memory, and the strerror message and or the message of WB may have been different. Regards, Dieter Regards, Dieter
