Subject: Fide time-control and computer play

Using a dgt and a Saitek Centurion computer I played a game using the fide new
time-control. The "C" was easy to program the time control with sudden death 90
and the Bronstein 30" added after each move. I played horribly me and the
computer both couldn't come up with positionally-based ideas. It became a game
of attrition which I would lose so quickly to tactics. This month's Chess Life
has a feature on the Fide World Championship between V. Ivanchuk and Ponamariov.
After my game with the Saitek "C" I see why players complain about the fast Fide
time controls. I don't think that Ponamariov is a geniune chess champion.
Maybe a blitz world champion if anything. I am going back to 40/2 + SD/1.
