not so strange :-)
computers don't seem to understand the "fortress" concept. i posted two
positions i got while playing against fritz about a week ago, and fritz
evaluated both as +- from it's point of view, something like 1.6 pawns up. both
were fortresses too, with nowhere to go for fritz. i'm not astonished that
hiarcs has the same problem here, actually, this position looks much better than
the two i posted: the advanced protected passed pawn on g3, plus white's
crippled pawn structure - the static evaluation for such a position deserves to
be +2.
i complained about the eval of fritz, because having such a high eval for a
drawn position can make you miss a de facto more promising line which gets a
lower evaluation. these wrong evaluations can make a program miss a win - i
wonder if hiarcs let a win slip here? instead of allowing this Bb4 Bxb4, could
it have moved the king to the queenside? i hope we get smirin's comments on the
game soon :-)
