You are probably mixing things up. There are different types of multi processing. SMP is Symmetrical Multi Processing. There the memory is shared and accessed the same for each processor. NUMA is Non Uniform Memory Access. Where memory is mor tightly bound to individual processors. That means that some multi processor code with SMP as a hidden assumption can be slower.
