I am finding the same. There is no difference in playing strength with Crafty with or without tablebases. I have not lost a single rating point on ICC since not using them. With Tiger the rating dropped slightly, but I think that is due to everyone there so used to playing Tiger's their books are very learned to the playing style. Using a PIII 550 I was able to maintain a 2799 rating using Crafty. It has since dropped 50 points when I switched to Tiger. The account plays everyone within 800 points of it's current ranking. Seek out Somnus(C) on ICC to see it's current rating. As you have said I noticed little to no difference at all in playing strength. Uri I guess you were right, and I must eat my words.
