Hello, I do not think Human vs Bot games are over yet. I think you better check the scoreboard Smirin 3.5 vs Bots 2.5. http://www.chessbase.com/events/events.asp?pid=122 If it was a blow-out for either side then there would be no interest. I appreciated Smirin's fortress against Hiarcs. In fact, based on the two games H8 has played I would say it is the strongest program. When these NOW powerhouse programs showed up in a big way 10 to 15 years ago a match between say MChess Pro against ChessMaster could draw crowds to watch, but after a few years nobody would show up! However, against big names like Kramnik people will still show up. >>I doubt if anybody will ever actually play against their own software ever >>again. Well, it depends on the software, I can still beat some of the freeware programs, however; I agree with you that I cannot beat my best programs, F7, J7 and Hiarcs7.32 etc.. CB has recognized this and has incorporated playchess.com in their program. This will help to maintain sales and presumably they will begin charging a fee once enough people start going there. I noticed the Players club was up to 300 players, not bad. I am sure they have a target level of members at which point they will begin charging. Playchess.com software still has allot of bugs and problems to resolve. I don't think they even have a SpeedTrap there yet. Not enough resources, and (C)heating at Playchess.com is so easy and prevalent, SpeedTrap there would be like giving out speeding tickets at the INDY 500 road race :) My rating is between 1700 and 1800 ELO so I am considered a strong club player. I do not play against my best software, it is to strong, however; I do use the other features, in particular the Analysis Engine. This tool has improved my chess immeasurably. If it were a hundred years ago, I would still be around 1400 ELO. My location is rather isolated for finding (H)umans to play against. We can now with a flick of a switch at any time play a GM, it will beat us, no laughing at us and then it shows us our mistakes, now that we should be thankful for. >>I think the Kramnik - Fritz match will be cancelled too, as nobody has shown any >>interest in that whatsoever. The Kramnik match will happen when Kramnik gets around to playing it! The money is in place. He is simply delaying so he can practice more against F7. I believe there is allot of interest in the match, but certainly not as much as the Kaspy vs DB match. Blame Kramnik not the bot in this one :) >>The only thing left to do is match software against software. We already have this at ICCA etc.. We are still a long way off when the best a human can do is a draw against a bot. >Software against humans is also possible in the right conditions. > >I believe that every player with a rating of at least 1500 who knows something >about computers can beat every program in a match when you only let me to choose >the initial position and the program is going to have to play the same position >with white and black. Yes, but why make such a ridiculous statement. If I take the bots pieces from it in the setup and I have all of mine, I will win. So why make this analogy ?
