Update:

Called their customer support, reached an answering machine. Called their sales
number and reached a nice lady (with a heavy southern accent) who said to call
back in 40 minutes and she will answer in person at the customer support number
and look up my order. (They have a human at that number only 4 hours a day,
12-4 Central time.)

She said that ChessBase USA does NOT charge a credit card until they ship, which
is a good policy.

She also said they are planning to improve their website and their communication
with customers (automated e-mails, etc.) in the VERY near future (like within a
week). That's good too.

Finally, she said Pocket Fritz has been continuously in stock and should have
shipped the day after the order was received. So any problem I'm having is
probably unique and nothing for any other potential customer to worry about.
(I'd printed out the order confirmation screen, so it should be easy to
resolve.)

It's good to be able to get some communication going with the vendor, and it now
seems that ChessBase USA is a perfectly honest and nice little company.

:-)
