There are no rules that I know of. One thing that is certain is that a knight is a terrible defensive piece if long range hitters like rooks are on the board (A bishop pair is such one also). The only drawing ideas are exchanging the knight or perpetual threats (i.e every time you end evaluation in a position with no threat, your opponent will most probably improve his position.). The King Safety will also be very important. In short: In positions with many pieces a piece will probably mean a win. Or a goodly chance of an opponent slip. MvH Dan Andersson
