Computers and humans both play better chess on an absolute scale when given more
time.  Computers usually gain less than 1 ply from a doubling of the time,
whereas humans gain critical "debugging" time.  The latter factor is usually
much greater.  Humans usually gain a lot more than computers do from the
additional time.

Yes, but most GMs (maybe not the really old ones ;-) ) are like top athletes in
endurance.  Otherwise they would not be GMs.  Fatigue is rarely a factor for
healthy GMs in non-marathon games (if the game goes 10 hours or something,
fatigue can obviously start becoming a BIG factor).
