How do you know? Did you talk with GM's. I suspect that finding different lines and greater depth may be very important for GM's. I read analysis of GM's and I know that there are GM's who calculate a lot of lines in games. I suspect that extra time mainly provides better "debugging" only for relatively weak humans who cannot imagine clearly the positions in the end of their search. Uri
