And it's still readable. When annotating a game with lots of symbols like !, !!,
?! etc. you also get quite some garbage like $21, $11 etc. No one complained
about that, although it also greatly reduced (human) readability.

My point is that the standard has had the most value when interchanging games
between computer programs. The additions may be ugly, but *do* serve a clear
purpose, as stated in the revision text.
