Re: [D]bbkrNQq1/n1P1R1rQ/n1q1R3/BqpqQNQK/3rQ3/3pP3/3pP3/3qQ2B w - - Heiner, My apologies. I'm not sure exactly what mistake I made. Checking the starting position, and running MacChess 5.0.1 on my old 250MHz Mac PowerBook G3 again, it finds the following Mate in 9, which has the same key move as the first of your solutions. 1. cxd8+ Qxd8 2. Rxc6+ Qxc6 3. Qe6+ Qgxe6 4. Ned6+ Qexd6 5. Nxd6+ Rxd6 6. Qef5+ Rd7 7. Qxd8+ Kb7 8. Qb6+ Kc8 9. Re8# The point is, that although MacChess 5.0.1 is an old free program, no longer under development, it is surprisingly effective at solving classical mate in n problems. Rodney
