My sentence was too general and couldn't be defended, although with some very minor changes I would ( if it was important for me ;) ). (My thing can use FBK books as well) > First : you snipped the last sentence of my post which makes a big difference. That your program can use FBK books doesn't automatically mean you could provide FBK books from commercial engines as your own or use them in official tournaments. But let's go back to Rebel books to not mix it up too much. If you want to use Rebel books for your own engine that's _very_ easy. You only need to buy Rebel Tiger11, it comes with the Rebel book. Then you can use Sjeng as WinBoard or UCI engine under the Chesspartner/Rebel Tiger GUI and _noone_ will complain at all if you do it "for your private basement joy". People do similar things all the time ( Yace plays with Tiger.ctg, Crafty with Fritz.ctg etc., publish their results, everyone is happy). Second idea: let's say Sjeng 13.0 comes with a new feature - it can read and use fbk and mvs books and have its own learning on top. If you offer this program for download I don't see _any_ problem with copyrights at all either. But you can't escape the problem that you won't be able to declare one of those as "Sjeng book" by GCP or offer it for download at your pages without violating copyrights heavily. Regards, Peter
