Fischer, if you look back through his career had left chess publicly before. Where was he between 1967 to 1970? Even at that he wasn't given much attention until the WCC of 1972! So one could say he nearly vanished for 5 years! After winning the WCC he vanished again. He could have made millions of dollars with television endorsements, etc. but would have no part of it. Fischer was odd to say the least, and couldn't stand publicity. He would have reappeared if certain _demands_ were met in 1975 but that's moot now. The one thing I'm certain of, is he didn't fear Karpov. Fischer did it his way, I don't agree with him, but that's the way it was. Terry
