Hi there, the most free and strongest amateur chess programs comes from Germany and France. So the tournaments in Paderborn (IPCCC), Massy and the French-ch are very interesting for all user of chess engines. In 3 weeks started the next programmer tournament in Massy 2002 (May 26th, 2002): Strong French programs are (examples): - Chess Tiger / Gambit Tiger - Chess Wizard (now with an other name, programmer have complete rewritten) - Virtual Chess (the commercial version of VC II is now 4 years old) - AnMon (go AnMon go) - Capture (won a France-ch) !! - Pharaon - Nejmet - The Crazy Bishop - Dragon - Knightx - Guru Chess (Linux Engine) - BBChess (not free, also compatible to WinBoard) - Jester - other programs ... Here very short the results of the first 3 touraments: Massy 1999: 01. Chess Tiger 6/7 02. Chess Wizard 5.5/7 03. AnMon 5.0/7 Massy 2000: 01. AnMon won (I have not the complete games, only a table). Massy 2001: 01. Chess Tiger 5.5/6 02. Chess Wizard 5.0/6 03. AnMon 4.0/6 Same results compare to 1999 :-) Now it's interesting which programs participant in Massy 2002. I have so far no information. I hope the first tournament with Virtual Chess and I hope a lot of other strong French programs are playing this year. Best Frank
