So what: one does not necessarely need to do any reverse engeniring to
understand a file format.

And file formats are not under copyright, but the algorithm used to produce them
are.

By the way reverse engeniring is permitted in the European Community in one
case: if you need to integrate one software you have bought with another you
have or you have written.
