Go up one level in this thread

This baffles me. When installing Hiarcs 8, I got me this new v1.04 driver. I
didn't do anything, just installing Hiarcs in it's standard directory.
There are two drivers, one serial (COM) and one USB. Maybe the problem lies in a
conflict somewhere there?

If un- and reinstalling everything leads nowhere, there's something more wrong
at your side. Not: "you did something wrong" but "something is screwed up".

My installation looks like this:

All chessbase products in e:\program files\Chessbase
hiarcs in the directory e:\program files\chessbase\Hiarcs8
the DGT-drivers in e:\program files\chessbase\Devices

I don't know how you organize your PC, but to make things less complicated, take
care that your data files are in a separate partition or directory at least.
Include the cblay and flay. layout files. Also copy the IUPGrade.exe files to a
data directory, if you don't want to upgrade online. If you have .ini-files, for
say CB7 or CB8, also include them in the transfer.

Copy the complete "engines" directory to a safe place, so you can tamper with
all without hurting that one.

Now uninstall *everything* CB related through the regular Windows installer
(Control panel > Software > add/remove).
Now START with the Hiarcs installation and see how it goes when starting it
after the first time.

You now have one GUI that works for all CB engines, and you can decide to leave
it that way. Copying back all files and engines makes everything work again;
only need to reinsert all CD-Roms when starting the engines that are copied to
and fro.

If you need to reinstall more, check everything after each installation, to
enlarge the chance to find the culprit.

Good luck.

J.
