>Yes, and a very poor start for Hiarcs 8. Exactly, "start". We sometimes make fun at each other here over the by now void statement "more games are needed". However it seems that people still don't realise everything about tournament development with chess engines. I recall playing an engine match just recently between Gandalf 5.0 and Gandalf 4.32. After six games Gandalf 4.32 led by a margin of 5 games. After 50 games Gandalf 4.32 and 5.0 were on par, Gandalf winning with one point or so.. Recently I played 300 3,0 games with these contestants. You can see Fritz performs well against Hiarcs. After 150 games Hiarcs was in the lead. After 300 games Fritz topped the list. You can see Hiarcs performs well against Junior and Shredder, a current world champion. It seems Hiarcs is a potent chap. It seems the last release of Fritz 7 is also a potent chap. Good. Now what are we going to expect? If a new engine hits the market, should it be automatically number one and very much stronger than everything else? I think number two or three is very strong as well. And more important, what does Hiarcs "understand" about chess? In some situations Hiarcs could make the difference. It seems a lot of people use their engine for analysis. They might have made a very good decision. J. Program Elo + - Games Score Av.Op.
