Hi Joe, >Grand masters have no obligations to play anyone at chess. Anymore than I am >obligatied to play anyone in chess. But they won't have my respect as >chessplayers or sportsmen if they claim they are better than someone (or >something) but refuse to play it and show us their proofs. If this is what is happening, then I agree with you Joe. But this is not what's happening (except perhaps in isolated cases.) What IS happening is that WE are making the claims of equality and then are frustrated because they won't take the bait. We are taunting them by saying, "I am better than you, therefore you should have to prove me wrong." You see, they were minding their own business when we came along, now we are making outlandish claims and expecting them to respond. This is all the high level picture Joe, I want no argument with you since it's highly open to interpretation and speculation on both our parts. You see the computers as being somewhat victimized by Grandmasters who are afraid of us. I see it from the point of view that we are "guests" in their world and should behave as such. They will play us as they see fit but will resent it if we try to invade their world and will fight back. We are somewhat frustrated because they will not play us whenever we see fit. - Don
