I wasn't able to see what was wrong with 1.g4 Kb4 2.Kc2 either until working out some lines. It looks as if after 2...Ka3, it's impossible to keep the Black king from hanging around behind White's queenside pawns, so White never has time to play his king to c6 and take on c7. I don't see how endgame tablebases would really help a program's analysis of this situation, as suggested by Diepeveen. First, the entire queenside would need to be liquidated, and only during the race to the kingside would tablebases be useful. Regards, Vine Smith
