I don't have Hiarcs 8, but judging from the games I have seen, and particularly from the games it drew against Ilya Smirin, Hiarcs looks very strong. I think some people are Hiarcs fans, so they had fantasized that the new version would defeat anybody, on any computer, at any time control. Those were too high expectations. Concerning the Ponziani, Vine is right that is not an inferior opening. If you got and easy and fast equal game, it's probably that you played very well. Period. Also I guess Hiarcs 8 doesn't play Ponziani each time it has White. Probably it plays Ponziani sometimes, in order to catch you by surprise. That's normal.
