At one time the Center Counter was considered weak until Grandmaster Huebner won
with it some years ago and then it became fashionable to play. I play with it
quite often and win many more games than i lose with it. My friend who has a
Master rating of 2345 said that most openings are good enough to use as long as
you know it well and understand it's principles and be familiar with the middle
game positions that come from it!

My friend plays the Latvian Gambit and kicks the butts of many Master players.
This opening does not have a very good reputation but he knows it very well and
thus can win games with it. Another Master player from our club who's rating is
in the 2300's is very strong in his openings and he made a comment to my other
friend who as i said is rated 2345, that the Latvian Gambit is no good! Well, he
challenged him and beat him with the Latvian Gambit more than once and so now
the other Master won't allow him to play the Latvian Gambit against him! I
thought this to be most interesting!

Regards,
      Terry
