You asked about game 40 in 2. the bottom line is we don't have alot of games in this range with 1)your computer and 2)your version of fritz. First variable is your computer. Is is a p2 k6 celron? all these variables make some difference. As far as the version of Fritz any time anyone can actually get a GM to play a match agaisnt there computer they always try to use the latest hardware. So we have *some* evidence of how well Fritz 7 does with 1gig+ machines, but how this software woudl do with slower hardware is a bit more questionable. You may be able to find games of fritz 3 on a 300 mhz computer playing GMs. You'd gennerally be able to then assume fritz 7 would be stronger on that same hardware. How much stronger? Thats a tough one. Also it seems that some GMs are more savvy at playing computers than others. Compare Gulko and Smirins results. Those were faster computers(and the time control was g/90 + 10sec /move) but the gms also had ratings higher than 2500. Ok with some of those reservations, I would say that if you have an amd k6III 300 processor I would not be surprised if your computer was competitive against 2500 players at tournament time controls. (If it were allowed in a tournament and played lots of people I would expect it to play between 2400-2600) there are far too few games between Grandmasters and the programs to be certain. As far a fritz rating itself I doubt it is valid.
