I think my reasons for interest were very similar to yours and think you have put it very nicely in your post. But what really does keep us interested now _after_ a few years and posting here? Some philosopher mind came up with this one ( which I also liked very much ): http://www.talkchess.com/forums/1/message.html?229337 I don't know how many people are really interested and/or able to buy all new programs, as if they belong to a chess program buying club, and as if the people on this forum are not really interested in chess, but only in chatting with the programmers, which means buying the programs too, as if that's payment for their time on this board.
