Junior 7 - Gurevich,M (2641) [C01]
Corinth, 16.05.2002
[Frederic]

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 exd5 4.c4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Bb4 6.Nf3 0-0 7.Be2 dxc4 8.Bxc4 Bg4
9.0-0 Nc6 10.Be3 Qd7 11.h3 Bh5 12.a3 Ba5 Time: 56:44 13.Re1 This seems to be a
new move. 13...Rad8 14.Rc1 Rfe8 15.b4 Bb6 16.Bb5 GMS: This variation is often
played by computers against the French, but Fritz6 didn't look exactly great
with it against Robert Hübner in Dortmund •last year. Xracer: White is pushing
forward, Black has no active pawns. 16...a6 17.Bxc6 Qxc6 [17...Qxc6 18.Ne5??
Qxc3 (18...Rxe5 19.dxe5 Bxd1 20.Nxd1 Qa4) ] 18.g4 Bg6 19.d5 Qd6 20.Bxb6 Qxb6
21.Ne5 Qd6 Time: 48:32 22.Qd4 [22.Qd4 Nxd5 23.Nc4 Qf8] 22...Nd7 23.Nc4 Roy:
White has a queenside attack and is in good shape 23...Qf6 24.Qxf6 Nxf6 Xracer:
This GM puts king safety at a premium. I think this is an indication that he has
great respect for programs. But this type of play will let the program develop.
Not a good move exchanging queens against this program in this position. White
is very developed with open board. not the best position for GM to be in
against programs. 25.Na5 b6 26.Nc6 Ra8 27.f4 GMS: This is a very good move by
White. 27...h6 28.Re5 Time: 42:23 28...Bd3 29.Rce1 Kf8 Nogal: White has an
advantage in space and dominates the board, but that tiny pawn at d5 is not
healthy enough and the bishop is active too. Roy: White has more space but Black
may survive due to the Bishop. White had a bigger win earlier I think.
[29...Kf8 30.Rxe8+ Rxe8 31.Ne5 is good for White] 30.Rxe8+ Nxe8 31.Re7 Bc4
32.Kf2 Nf6 33.Rxc7 Nxd5 34.Nxd5 Bxd5 35.a4 Time: 24:18 35...Bb3 36.a5 bxa5
37.bxa5 Nogal: Black is constricted, but this is a playable endgame. I expect a
king march to the queenside. Roy: Possible, but maybe Black can use the bishop
to save his skin. 37...Ba4 38.Ne5 Be8 39.Nc6 f6 40.f5 Bf7 41.Nb4 Time: 22:09
41...Be8 42.Nd3 Kg8 43.Nc5 Bf7 44.Kg3 Re8 45.Nxa6 Re3+ 46.Kf2 Rxh3 Roy: The
losing move! Othello: Yes, it's almost over. Fritz7: +2.16 47.Nc5 Nogal: a5 is
an unstoppable monster. 47...h5 48.g5 fxg5 [48...Bd5] 49.Rc8+ Kh7 50.Ne4 Roy:
Pure tactics. 1-0. Time: 09:03. Gurevich resigned. 1-0
