Subject: HIARCS 8, Installing the New Book

Author: Terry McCracken

The openings book on the Hiarcs8 CD was generated by merging the original
tournament book of Eric Hallsworth with a big collection of historic and modern
master games. This broad book is fine for training and fun. However the master
games contain and enable many inferior lines which Hiarcs should not play
according to its tournament book.

To get optimum playing strength of Hiarcs8, you should always use the enclosed
pure tournament book consisting entirely of variations compiled by Eric
Hallsworth. Please proceed as follows:

1. Create an empty openings book by calling Menu File -> New -> Openings book.
2. Call Menu Edit -> Book -> Import old book and select "H8.hbk".

The importing process will take a few minutes at most.

Ok these are the instructions, however I'm having a problem, due to lack of
expertise of course!

1. Create an empty openings book by calling Menu File -> New -> Openings book.

Ok here's my first snag, at step 1, Exactly what should I do here as when I go
to Menu File -> New -> Openings book, I get my Hiarcs 8 ctg. and I'm not sure
what to do? It isn't clear to me what good this is? Making a new folder doesn't
make sense here?

So I jumped to, 2. Call Menu Edit -> Book -> Import old book and select
"H8.hbk".

So I do this and for the next half hour I have it supposedly importing H8.hbk
and I checked to make sure that was correct, but when it's finished with it's
importation nothing changes?

I still have the CD ver. H8 ctg. Book! This is madding as it takes alot of time
to do this so-called conversion and importation!

What am I doing wrong, what am I suppose to do? I have H8 ctg. copied to disk in
it's own folder which I created during setup. I do this for all my OB's F7 etc.,
and name the My Fritz7, My HIARCS 8, etc.

Now following the first instruction leads me to open my ctg. well that's
useless, and step to won't transfer my "H8.hbk"?

This should be soooo easy but I'm missing something? Can anyone here give me
instructions that would enable me to import this book?

Not my day:(

Terry
