The following position happened in the game GM Cifuentes vs IM Zvjaginsev (1995) [D]3rr1k1/1b1q1p1p/p2b1npB/2pP4/1p2n3/4N1P1/PPQ1NPBP/R2R2K1 b here the GM resigned after 24...Nxf2!! 25.Kxf2 Rxe3!! 26.Bxe3 Ng4+ 27.Kf3 Nxh2+ 28.Kf2 Ng4+ 29.Kf3 Qe6! 30.Bf4 Re8! 31.Qc4 Qe3! 32.Bxe3 Rxe3+ 33.Kxg4 Bc8! 34.Kg5 h6+! 35.Kxh6 Re5! There are many alternative defences all of which fail .On a 700 MHz PC it takes CM8000 3 minutes and one second to see the two peice sacrafice. Time:3:01 Depth :10 Score :0.34 Positions:13571609 Moves:Nxf2 Kxf2 Rxe3 Bxe3 Ng4+ Kf3 Nxh2+ Kf2 Ng4+ Kf3 Qe6 Bf4 Bxd5+ Really CM considers this at ply 8 then changes its mind to Ng4 at ply9 and finally finds 24...Nxf2!! at ply 10 at 3:01 and stickes to it. Many programs have a hard time finding this for example my program Hiarcs 3 (from 1994) does not see this after even a very long think. My guess is that the chessbase programs wont do good in this position. Please indicate your result.
