Maybe you should lower the amount of hash-table/ram you allocate to your chess
programs. To much hash-table/ram will cause your hard-drive to work constantly.I
have 319mb ram on my puter and running Hiarcs8 at 50mb,i could allocate 238mb
max without my hard-drive working constantly but my best Hiarcsmarks(231+) are
at 50mb.Experiment with it until you allocate the right amount of hash-table/ram
that optimises your programs playing strength.
