Subject: gcc 3.1 kicks intel at its own hardware!

Hello,

for DIEP gcc 3.1 is
6-7% faster than intel c++ at a P3-800.

To use branch optimization in gcc 3.1:

compile with -pg -fprofile-arcs then run the program
later recompile (rm *.o -f) with -fbranch-probabilities.

NOT BAD FOR A FREE COMPILER!!

At a K7 the difference is much bigger than this, the default
compile is already faster around 6% or so.

Exact results i only can get later though as i have not yet
linux installed on my K7. So coming tournaments perhaps i
run linux!
