This is all just typical Chessbase blundering in my opinion. After installing
Fritz 7/ Shredder 5 /Hiarcs 8 I have 3 GUI's that act as one...almost. The
update only updates Fritz 7. There is no method available to choose a path to
Shredder 6 / Hiarcs 8. If Chessbase was intending to do this idiotic thing in
the beginning why didn't they have the installation program check for the other
versions and just install what is needed with the new engine????? I know, it's
useless to ask you or anyone else here. But you can ask Chessbase and get no
real answers either. I prefer the previous version setup. That way I can set
up each program the way I like to run it and then when I click on that icon I
get the program I really want with the setup I really want. I could go on and
on about the new GUI which is the stupidest thing I have seen lately in computer
chess but what's the point. They have their chess server going and that's
what's really important to Chessbase. Not the fact that the other side of the
GUI which is what I purchased the program for is still full of bugs. Actually I
only purchased it for the engine but it seems I'm stuck with using the GUI
provided since there is some question whether or not the Hiarcs 8 program will
run correctly in the Junior 7 GUI. If engine programmers were half as smart as
they think they are they would write their programs for either winboard or the
Shredder GUI and sell their engines without the interference of Chessbase. Or
better yet get together and make another universal GUI which makes everybody
happy. I guess I should stop before I start telling how I really feel.
