After looking at many factors insde my pc that could be hampering a decent speed and finding nothing because all was OK, I decided to test the program itself messing around with some of its parameters. Soon I found hash table size do have some effect. Specifically, my pc have 256 Mb in Ram and first I had setted the h8 engine to make use of 96 of them. Now, suspecting that at least that was an unnecesary high amount for a slow engine, did sucesive hiarcsmark-benching with 32, 24 and 16, several test for each. Results: Hiarsc 8 becomes faster with 32 Mb Ram. At least in my system. From around 23-25 Kn with 96 it went to 27-28 with 32. Not the big thing, but a difference. I also did changes to other parameters in the advanced options, but thy did not affect the speed. Nevertheless I am still unsatisfied. I suppose hat with my AMD k-6 500 Mhz Hiarcs should run at around 40 Kn. I have checked processor perfomance, memory, etc with "Fresh diagnosis" and all is OK. I wonder if some of you cold give me some extra hints. Fernando
